Nashville Dirt - Tennessean Spice Blend

Nashville Hot Chicken: Dredge a room temperature chicken in your favorite buttermilk and flour mixture. Fry in vegeatble oil until done and let rest for 15 minutes. Mix frying oil with 1/4 c. Nashville Dirt to taste. Brush the chicken with the hot mixture and serve on white bread with bread & butter pickles. Serve with cole slaw, or a macaroni salad and Southern sweet tea.

Use as a dry rub for smoked chicken, pork or bacon. Sprinkle onto eggs, popcorn, french fries, salads, and sandwiches. Mix with sour cream, milk and mayonnaise for a country chip or vegetable dip.

Nashville Dirt Spice Blends are sifted prior to packaging.  Stand up bags are sealed and zipped to keep the contents fresh. Shaker spice jars  are sealed with a pressure sensitive liner. Store in a cool, dry place, and away from heat. Products may clump due to heat, humidity or improper seal. If your spice blend is clumping, remove from package and resift, or place in a coffee grinder or blender.

Throughout the years, many excellent forcible entry tools were introduced to the fire service. None were as progressive as the “Kelly Tool” which was designed by Captain John F. Kelly of the New York City Fire Department. Captain Kelly, while assigned to Ladder Company 163, took the first step in making a tool that had a straight drive for impact. By removing the “hook” he lessened the possibility of hitting off-center, but did sacrifice the advantage of the “hook” of the Claw Tool. His tool, like the Claw Tool, was made of heavy steel approximately 24 inches long. One end had an “Adz” at 90 degrees to the shaft and the other end of the shaft had a chisel. The weight was also approximately 10 pounds.
